Harvest update: near full veraison
Slowly reaching the end of veraison in the red blocks, with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon both basically complete and the only laggard is the Cabernet Franc. We had the team go through again yesterday and drop all the remaining greed fruit.
2025 GDD: 1641 (delta to 2024 vintage: 213)
Our Sauvignon Blanc is coming along nicely at this stage, and I am still targeting a mid-September harvest. I have not even begun to test the sugars on the refractometer yet, but just for sampling berries I’m starting to get a sense of the flavors and the profile of the wine. The interior of the block is ripening now into those peach and tropical notes we look for in ever vintage, with the end vines (which are always larger, carry more fruit, and lag behind the centers) ripening into a lemon-lime profile now. I’m guessing 20-21 Brix from a field test. Seeds are roughly 35-50% brown.
Overall, we could still use some heat.
